Westcord Art Hotel Amsterdam

My first large scale Amsterdam piece

In January of 2024 I was commissioned by the Westcord Art Hotel in Amsterdam to create an Amsterdam map artwork for them, this was then going to be printed onto the inside of the elevators in their hotel. So that when you got in the lift you were surrounded by the map with all the landmarks and doodles

A mixture of canals and iconic landmarks.

I had only drawn Amsterdam once before and that was on a much smaller scale so doodling this piece was quite challenging at first. I had to get the map drawn to the exact spec of the lift and also work around metal strips in the wall. Amsterdam as a city is challenging to draw as well as you have to doodle their network of canals and make sure they are in the right place which can be pretty tricky.

Although it was tricky in places it was also a really fun piece to create as Amsterdam has loads of really unique and iconic landmarks, I really enjoyed drawing buildings such as Rijksmuseum and the Royal Palace, they were both stunning places to draw.

Once the design was done it was printed onto the elevators in Summer 2024 and I went over to visit and take some of my own pictures in November 2024. I was really happy with how the design looked and it is great to think hotel guests see my artwork every day.
